World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, is seeking a Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator to contribute to conservation outcomes within terrestrial landscapes, the organization’s strategies related to Area Based Conservation, Enhancing Wildlife Management and Indigenous peoples and local communities’ sustainable livelihoods. This role contributes to guiding WWF’s Biodiversity Conservation program's direction and ensuring alignment with national policies in Suriname and Guyana. The Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator supports the supervisor in their shared responsibility for operational 

excellence, risk management, and compliance with WWF's standards. 

Main Responsibilities 

The Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator will support in overseeing, designing and 
coordinating conservation projects related to Area Based Conservation, Enhancing Wildlife 
Management and Indigenous peoples and local communities’ sustainable livelihoods, under 
the supervision of the Conservation Director. This role involves coordinating activities, liaising 
with stakeholders, and ensuring effective project implementation to achieve conservation 
goals. 

Major Duties 

General 

  • Contributes to the achievements of WWF’s conservation goals by coordinating and implementing programs and strategies within the Biodiversity Program, liaising with stakeholders in-country and the wider region. 
  • Engages and collaborates with diverse WWF teams and Communities of Practice within the Guianas, Amazon, Latin America and Caribbean, -US, and other WWF offices. 
  • Foster strong and dynamic relationships with partners across the NGO, public, and private sectors, including relevant government officials, donors, and civil society. 
  • Develops and maintains strategic partnerships in the Guianas and the Amazon Regions. 
  • Assists in organizing and implementing fundraising strategies under the guidance of the WWF’s leadership. 
  • Identifies and leverages fundraising opportunities and collaborative efforts by collaborating and designing projects with other WWF offices. 
  • Contributes to proposal writing and budgeting, engaging potential donor partners and tracking funding opportunities, to optimize resource mobilization. 
  • Provides advice and contributes to the implementation of the EU funded Sustainable Forest Livelihoods in Communities program implemented by WWF and AFD. 
  • Contributes to the preparation and maintenance of program documentation and reports, adhering to regulations and organizational policies. 

Communication 

  • Represents and effectively communicates WWF Guianas' vision, mission, and strategy to all stakeholders. 
  • Proactively engages with partners on issues we care about. 
  • Provides information to and receive commitment from stakeholders concerning the initiative portfolio. 
  • Participates in meetings and develop and discuss project progress reports and financial overviews. 

Environmental and Social Safeguards 

  • Ensures adherence and implementation of WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF), and the management of risks within the overall portfolios and projects within defined landscapes. 

Other Duties 

  • Perform any other tasks reasonably assigned by the Supervisor. 
  • Set up a clear documentation storage system for audit purposes.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development, or relevant environmental discipline, with a minimum of 3 years of experience. 
  • Regional knowledge and working experience, particularly in the Guianas. 
  • Relevant knowledge in one or more areas: Ecology, Forestry, Conservation, Community 
  • Engagement, particularly in Suriname and Guyana. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a willingness to represent and speak on behalf of the organization. Strong team player and internal organizational networker. 
  • Proven track record in proposal writing, successful fundraising, and project management. 
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with government, business, civil society, and the donor community. 
  • Strong advocacy and public relations skills, with the ability to prepare advocacy and communications products such as policy briefs, op-eds, and PR materials is an asset. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office. 
  • Positive and encouraging personality, able to work independently with little supervision. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Dutch, English, and Sranan Tongo.

Working Relationships

Internal

Internal: Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Conservation 
Director. The Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator will collaborate with management, technical and 
operation team members across Suriname and Guyana and with other Network Offices. 

External

Private sector, local communities, NGO’s, government agencies and public authorities and their 
associations, media, CSOs.
