Building Supervisor
Junior/Senior High School Campus
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Building Supervisor to ensure the safety, security, and positive environment of our junior/senior high school campus. This role requires a visible, approachable leader who actively engages with students while maintaining comprehensive oversight of campus facilities and access points. This position is for a one-day a week assignment (Fridays) with the potential for substituting on other days for building supervisor absences. Internal candidates may be considered within the district for splitting this role during the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Visibility and Student Engagement
- Maintain high visibility throughout the campus during school hours, breaks, and transition periods
- Greet students warmly and foster positive relationships that contribute to school climate
- Serve as an approachable adult presence for students seeking assistance or guidance
- Monitor hallways, common areas, and outdoor spaces to ensure student safety and appropriate behavior
- Engage proactively with students to build rapport and maintain a welcoming school environment
Security and Access Control
- Conduct regular monitoring of all entry and exit doors throughout the school day
- Supervise lunch periods on a rotating basis with other building supervisors
- Ensure all access points are properly secured according to safety protocols
- Perform systematic checks of doors, gates, and perimeter access points multiple times per shift
- Collaborate with administration to maintain visitor management and campus access procedures
- Monitor and control student movement during class periods and ensure proper hall pass protocols
Facility Management and Maintenance
- Oversee daily building operations and coordinate with custodial and maintenance staff
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs
- Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate appropriate repairs or interventions
- Ensure compliance with fire safety codes, emergency procedures, and building regulations
- Maintain communication with district facilities personnel regarding building concerns
Safety and Emergency Response
- Implement and enforce school safety policies and emergency procedures
- Serve as a key member of the emergency response team during emergencies or lockdown or secure mode situations as informed by emergency response procedures.
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems as appropriate
- Document and report safety incidents, security breaches, or policy violations
- Assist with emergency drills and evacuation procedures
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate records of daily building checks, tardies, and in-school suspension logs
- Communicate reports for administration regarding building status and security matters
- Assist with student discipline matters as directed by administration via system for in-school and/or after school detention.
- Support special events, assemblies, and after-school activities as needed
- Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, parents, and district personnel
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training preferred
- Previous experience in security, building management, or educational environment strongly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to connect positively with adolescents
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to emergencies
- Physical ability to walk extensively throughout campus and stand for extended periods
- Basic computer skills and ability to operate security and communication equipment

Working Conditions
- 1 day/week during regular school hours with potential for extended hours during events
- Primarily indoor work with some outdoor responsibilities
- Requires extensive walking and standing throughout campus
- May involve working in various weather conditions when monitoring exterior areas
- Occasional evening or weekend duties for school events
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Assistant Principal with regular communication regarding campus safety, student concerns, and facility matters.
This position is essential to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment where students can thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will understand that visibility and positive student interaction are just as important as technical security duties.
